Recovery Academy 1 was created specifically to help young adults build the skills, confidence, and stability needed to move forward.
Located on historic Summit Avenue in St. Paul, Minnesota, Recovery Academy 1 is a licensed 15-bed Intensive Residential Treatment Services (IRTS) program operated by Horowitz Health. Our program provides comprehensive, person-centered mental health treatment in a structured, supportive environment where young adults can focus on healing while developing the tools needed for long-term success.
Who We Serve
Recovery Academy 1 is designed specifically for young adults ages 18 to 36 experiencing serious mental health conditions that require a higher level of residential support.
Our program serves individuals who may be experiencing:
- Serious and persistent mental illness
- Emotional dysregulation
- Anxiety or mood disorders
- Psychotic disorders
- Difficulty maintaining stability in the community
- Recent psychiatric hospitalization
- Challenges with independent living
- Co-occurring mental health and substance use concerns

Integrated Support for Co-Occurring Disorders
Many young adults experience both mental health and substance use challenges. At Recovery Academy 1, substance use education, relapse prevention, and recovery-focused interventions are integrated into our therapeutic programming because lasting recovery often requires addressing both mental health and substance use together.
However, Recovery Academy 1 is a mental health IRTS program—not a primary substance use treatment program. Individuals whose primary treatment need is substance use disorder may be better served by completing a dedicated substance use treatment program before transitioning into IRTS. Our admissions team works closely with providers and families to determine the most appropriate level of care.

Recovery Academy 1 offers a welcoming, home-like environment that encourages healing and personal growth.

- 15 residential beds
- A combination of private and shared bedrooms (private rooms available but not guaranteed)
- One ADA-accessible room
- Structured daily programming
- 24/7 staff supervision
- Safe, supportive community living
